The founders of Illuminance Fostering Services share a passion for the welfare of children and have over 125 years combined experience in safeguarding children. In addition, we have a committed qualified highly experienced team of social workers and supporting staff.
At Illuminance Fostering Services we take pride in providing children with loving, safe, secure, nurturing and stable foster family placements. We believe that every child has a right to live in a loving, safe and stable family home environment. We go beyond our call of duty because we are passionate about positive outcomes for children. We strongly believe that the best way to keep children safe is to talk to them, listen to their views and take them seriously.
Illuminance takes a planned, steady approach to expansion in order to build a strong foundation, preserve its highest priority - for services and resources to continue to deliver against outcomes identified for every child we place.
Illuminance Fostering Services cares about children’s “big feelings” and we want to support so that it does not get in the way of them being able to excel and from being happy.
At Illuminance we are committed to listening to children/ young people / foster carers and support if there are any problems. We value every member of the Illuminance Family and we prioritise meeting the needs of our children and supporting foster carers over and above that of financial gain.

Evidence Based Working
Illuminance has a strong commitment to evidence-based and partnership working. We promote multi agency working to deliver a wraparound service that supports Foster Carers both strategically and practically.
We also care deeply about the health, welfare and development of all our Foster Carers and staff - including Social Workers, Support Teams and Panel Members. We invest significantly in training, development, and consultancy programmes to further develop our resources.
We have chosen the Secure Base Model to inform and develop our practice. This gives us a framework to adhere to, exploring sensitive caregiving that develops attachment and resilience right from the first interaction with a child in our care. We train all of our staff and Foster Carers in this theory and practice, which underpins everything we do.
The secure base model was devised by Gillian Schofield and Mary Beek from the University of East Anglia. Builds on from the 1970’s on the importance of secure attachment in children’s development.
• Best environment for children’s healthy development is one in which they can take for granted that nurture, comfort and protection are available from their foster carers when needed
• Provides a secure base for exploration
• Allows children to begin to trust in others
• To provide a secure base, foster carers must be both physically and emotionally available
• Foster carers must be able to think flexibly about ways they can demonstrate to the child that they are reliable and trustworthy
• Foster carers need to be available and responsive at key times of the day, especially when children are settling in.

Our foster families are selected carefully based on their passion for the welfare of the child and their specialist skill set. Only the finest foster families and staff have the privilege to represent Illuminance Fostering Services.
The senior members of staff are all registered qualified social workers with over 125 years of combined experience between them in social care. We believe in supporting all children in our care to reach their individual full potential. We are passionate about doing what we love and believe in making a positive contribution to children’s lives.
